Original Medicare is Part A (hospital) and Part B (medical) run directly by the federal government. Medicare Advantage, also called Part C, is an alternative way to get your Medicare benefits — you're still enrolled in Medicare, but a private insurance company approved by Medicare administers your coverage instead.
By law, Advantage plans must cover everything Original Medicare covers. Most go further and bundle in extra benefits, but they do it through a private company's network and rules rather than Medicare's own system.
