Independent living communities are essentially housing for older adults who don't need regular help with ADLs. Think apartments or small homes with amenities like communal dining, housekeeping, transportation, and social activities, but generally no medical staff or hands-on personal care built in.
People often choose independent living to simplify life — no more yard work or house repairs — and to have built-in community, not because they need care. If health needs increase later, most residents either bring in outside home care or move to a setting with more support.
